Fortunately for us today, this allowed us to see three trucks, each hauling a giant blade for a wind turbine. What an operation that must be. We eventually caught up to this convoy when they had to stop traffic to make a turn. This must have been quite a project to maneuver that big blade around that intersection.
We traveled along RT 15 and 13 north and eventually to RT 23 which took us along the coast of Lake Huron. We hit a number of little towns but the views of the lake made up for this. In Presque Isle Nan found a state park with two lighthouses so we made a detour to visit these historic beacons. The first (Old) light house went into service in 1840. Unfortunately the construction did not hold up well in the harsh weather. By 1870 it was replaced by the New lighthouse which was 2 miles away and much taller.
Back on the road, it was just a few hours and we arrived in Mackinaw City. We checked into our hotel and since it was a long driving day we all enjoyed some refreshments on our decks as we watched the boats navigate the bay. A very pleasant dinner in a restaurant with a menagerie of stuffed animals. They made for interesting dinner mates.
